Just like most of us, when there’s a party where a lot of food is involved, we tend to think and talk about food, even if it’s not a meal one wants to eat. However, this is a very different mindset from being a homeowner.
While we all know that the number one reason to visit a new home is to eat food, it’s more complex than that. Most of us would agree that it’s not just about the food, but also that the atmosphere is a big part of the experience, plus the home is usually a big part of the budget.
It seems like there is a bit of a disconnect between the way we talk about food in homes and the way we talk about food in new homes. A lot of the time people don’t want to talk about food in homes because it gets confusing, but they do talk about it in new ones because they want to know the ingredients used to cook the food and they want to know how they taste.
I think this attitude is partly caused by the fact that we often assume that the food in a new home is going to be different, because it is. There is a lot of science behind the idea of food as a medicine – we see this in many other cultures too. It is because we assume that food in a new home is different that we find it hard to talk about it.

Because we don’t eat different foods, we don’t expect to eat different foods, so we assume that the new dish is going to be different too. As mentioned in the introduction, this is because we assume that our eating habits are going to be different. This is why it is hard to talk about recipes and why we have different tastes.

I still eat pasta, but I dont eat it with rice. A lot of people say “why would you eat rice with pasta?” because they assume it would be the same thing. We dont know if it is or not.
