What is self-awareness? It’s when you are aware of how you act, think, and feel. For example, if you are in a meeting of 20 or 30 people and you start looking at your laptop and you look at it and feel like you are not paying attention, you are not paying attention and you know you need to take your attention away from it. Self-awareness is a good thing.

The problem is when we’re on autopilot for so long that we forget we’re on autopilot. Because when we’re not even aware of our own habits, routines, impulses, and reactions, then we no longer control them they control us.
For example, in the past I’ve been on a mission to destroy a school bus full of innocent children and I’ve been going through the motions of doing it. It usually took me no more than three or four hours total to complete the mission. Now, because I was on autopilot, my actions were a surprise to myself and I didnt even know what I was doing.
People who are on autopilot are often described as “going through the motions.” I feel that this is a very negative description. It implies that without awareness or control, you are going through the motions even though you are not even aware. This is a common sense concept, so it is to be expected when people are on autopilot.
But not everyone is on autopilot. If you are, then you are aware of what you are doing. In fact, you might be better off than most of the people who claim to be on autopilot, because you are actually creating your own awareness. Even though you are going through the motions, you are also acting in such a way that you are creating your own reality.
